JIMMI CARR is a Blue Mountains based singer/songwriter. The Blue Mountains is a city in a World Heritage-listed National Park in New South Wales, Australia.
Jimmi's music
is both original and accessible, drawing on a wide range of influences
that move through Folk, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Rock and Hip Hop. Jimmi is
making a name for himself as a passionate performer and songwriter. He
displays an impressive pop sensibility and classic song writing skills.
His music is rootsy and lyrical. Often with a funk/rock edge, and has
been described as "Ben Harper meets Beck".
As
a teenager, Jimmi played in a funk metal fusion outfit "Tang" which
toured extensively. Playing major festivals and supporting bands such
as "D.I.G."
Since then Jimmi has played his own music solo and in acoustic and electric bands.
He has gigged constantly, playing bills with acts including XAVIER RUDD, JEFF LANG, HARRY MANX, LIOR, ADALITA and HERMITUDE.
Jimmi and his band have been building a steady following and impressing people wherever they go.
Jimmi has released 3 full length albums and 1 EP which have had airplay on
JJJ among many other national and international radio stations and
received consistently glowing reviews. His first album "THE RECIPE" was
released through ShoeString Records in 2004. It was a co-production by
Jimmi Carr and renowned drummer/producer Pete Drummond. "The Recipe" was
a perfect introduction to Jimmi's funky roots meets lyrical folk sound
The
second album,"BRIGHT BLACK SKY" was recorded with the help of some of
the best musicians in the country including members of HERMITUDE, PETE
DRUMMOND, JOHN STUART (session player for "The Dissociatives") plus a
string and horn section. The album was a more expansive work with poppy
moments along side darker, more experimental songs. It was released in 2006 through his own label ALTITUDE MUSIC and by VITAMIN RECORDS.
Having
been out on the road touring the 1st 2 albums with his now regular
rhythm section of Nick Parkinson and Morgan Lawless (as well as previous band members Pete Drummond, Tom Pilgrim, Amy Parkinson and
Chris Wheately), Jimmi decided to record a band style album.
This
album, "ALL THE PIECES" was the first credited to JIMMI CARR BAND. The
album is a double album, designed to play like a 2 sided record, with
the first disc showcasing the band's funk and hard rock roots. The second
disc is a more mellow acoustic style collection, showcasing Jimmi's
talents as a lyricist and songwriter of real emotional honesty. The
album was recorded quickly in a farmhouse in country Victoria with just
the 3 piece band and captures the sound of what has become a great live
band.
"Jimmi is about to go into the studio and start recording a new collection of songs - stay tuned" - August 2009
You can catch Jimmi touring with his band, and solo. They will be playing shows over coming months to support the new album.
